Newsletter - May / June 2010

Graduation
This year the school leavers Graduation Ceremony will be on Friday 30 July 2010. It will start at 1.30 with fun and entertainment for all the children (The Animal Man) and parents will be invited to come along at 2.30 when the actual ceremony will take place; a small buffet will follow. More information will be given nearer the time.

Parental Questionnaire on Communication
Once again I want to thank you for the great response and suggestions gathered. You should all have received a response letter stating how we intend to meet the suggestions made by yourself. The action plan derived form this is on display on the wall in the waiting area beside the notice boards.

Parents meetings
In response to your suggestions, there will be formal parents meetings arranged to discuss your child’s development and learning. For those parents and children finishing at the end of June, these will be arranged for 14, 15 June. Your child’s keyworker will arrange a time that suits you both. All other meetings will be organised between 28 June and 9 July 2010. Again your child’s key worker will arrange times with you. 15 minute time slots will be made available between 8am and 5.30pm; we have to limit the time to ensure everyone gets the same opportunity to discuss their child’s progress. If you cannot manage during the day or are on holiday or your child’s keyworker is on holiday, please let us know and another time or suitable evening slot will be arranged.

Planning and Development
As always, our nursery term finishes at the end of June. This means that there will be no individual planning for each child until the new term starts again in September. However each room will continue to do a room plan and organise activities and outdoor play. Summer is always a quiet time in the nursery as the collages are finished and staff and children go on holiday. This gives everyone time to re-charge their batteries ready for the new term beginning in September.

Eco - Schools project
Suzie and Stacey have managed to set up an eco-committee.
The committee members are:

Staff - Suzie, Stacey, Jackie
Children - Beth Gilroy, Ava Miller, Jack Hood, Isla Docherty, Shannon Wright
Parents - Jenny Hull

Minutes of the meeting can be found on the wall display in the waiting area. An action plan for our first steps in becoming an eco-frinedly nursery is also displayed here. Please take time to have a look.

The Rag Bag box was emptied recently and we received our first cheque for this, £44.55. Please continue to deposit your old clothing in this box; this is a great return for unwanted items. The money will be used to purchase more equipment for our recycling and garden area. We would like to say a big thank you to Jenny Hull who donated some High Viz vests for staff and children.

Photographs
We had a fabulous uptake on the photographs this year. We received a commission cheque for £132.96. We hope to use this money to arrange some outings for the children throughout the summer.

Children’s lunches and snacks
You will all have received a questionnaire asking for your comments on the lunch and snacks provided. Again there was a very good response to this. Annmarie is now collating all the information gathered from you, the children and the suppliers and will disseminate a new sample lunch and snack menu for you to comment on before a final decision is made.

Policies
A new selection of policies are displayed for your information. Please take time to read and comment on them if you feel they need to be changed at all.

Appropriate protection for the Weather
Could all parents please ensure their child is appropriately dressed for the weather. When the sun is out, please ensure they have a hat and sun cream. Children will not be allowed out to play in the sun if they do not have the appropriate protection. We cannot take the risk of children getting burned.

Holiday date to remember
The nursery will be closed on Monday 19 July and re-open as usual on Tuesday 20 July. We will remind you again nearer the time.

Decoration
Over the next few weekends the nursery will be getting painted. All pictures and friezes will be removed from the walls and the rooms may look very bare for a few weeks. We have done all we can to ensure this will cause minimum disruption, however, we do apologise in advance if this does cause any inconvenience to anyone. We have also recently fitted new units and worktops in the baby room and the 2-3 room and new radiator covers have been purchased for these rooms also. We continue to do our best to ensure that the nursery maintains a warm welcoming, clean and safe environment for staff, children and families alike.

We would like to thank you for your continued support throughout the last term. Thank you for taking the time to comment on the service allowing us to make improvements along the way. We intend to continue this throughout the next term.

We hope everyone has a lovely summer and that the sun continues to shine.

Thank you
Jackie Campbell (nursery manager)
And all the staff.
